Superstition is the result of a marriage of two whiskies. The first one is characterized by its peaty taste, in the traditional style of Islay, and the other by it's delicate mildness.The dark colour recalls the
Mahogany wood, with gold glints.The sweet smell due to the long stay in american oak casks mixes itself with some phenol, honey and marzipan hints.The very complex taste reveals spices, pine and peat fragrances.

I tasted the 2006 Jura standard issue and nearly choked, it was so bad. But Jura Superstition was a whole different story. Truly one of the most unique malts I've tasted, it has the peat, but not with the sweet and smoky routine of most Islay whisky. Superstition comes across as heavily organic - I'm talking mulch, firewood, camp coals, delicate mushrooms. But good stuff is happening with notes of vanilla, marzipan, creme brulee. A touch of seaweed, crayon - and more earthiness. Some nights I still wouldn't touch it, as it fits only as a specific accompaniment. But it's still one of my favorite releases of the year from Scotland.
